The Casa Maya Adventure Program is focused on enjoyment and education while protecting the Casa Maya guests can select from a wide range of Day Trips to experience the rivers, caves, mountains, waterfalls, birds, animals and ancient Maya sites of the Cayo District of Belize. These trips are full day adventures led by one of Casa Maya’s licensed professional tour guides. Day Trip prices are $50 per person, which is all inclusive of transportation, equipment and professional guide. Sometimes lunch is included, but we try to schedule lunch stops so our guests have an opportunity to visit other resorts and interesting places in this part of Belize.

Day Trips

  • Macal River Canoe Trip   A day long canoe trip takes you 18 miles down the beautiful Macal River. You will visit Ixchel medicine trail, the home of Rainforest Remedies, and the fascinating blue morpho butterfly farm at Chaa Creek. Lunch at Crystal Rey is a welcomed stop, with a cooling swim at nearby Wilson Falls. You will see lots of huge iguanas and river life.

  • Mountain Pine Ridge   This is a full day tour of the Mountain Pine Ridge area, a unique pine covered granite dome reaching over a thousand meters in elevation. You will see Thousand Foot Waterfall, Rio On Pools, Rio Frio Cave and other interesting sites. Lunch at Five Sisters is a relaxing scenic stop. A refreshing swim at Rio On Pools will be welcomed.

  • El Pilar Maya and Cahal Pech Ruins   El Pilar is a recently discovered and partially excavated mysterious Maya city astride the Guatemala/Belize border. It is a seldom-visited site with a beautiful quiet jungle setting. You will have lunch in San Ignacio. Cahal Pech, a residence of Maya kings, is perched on top of a mountain overlooking the Mopan Valley.

  • Xunantunich Maya Ruins and Mopan River Trip   In the morning you will tour Xunantunich, with the highest pyramid temple in Belize, offering an awesome view. After the ruins you can go tubing or kayaking down the Mopan River. Lots of river birds, iguanas and small animals. Lunch at Clarissa Falls is right at the rivers edge.

  • Aguacate Lagoon   This is a great family environmental trip to a lovely lake in the remote Yalbak jungle area. You will hike to unmapped and unexcavated Maya ruins and see lots of birds, monkeys, coatamundi, and small animals along the way. After a picnic lunch, you can canoe and fish on the lake.

  • Barton Creek Cave and Big Rock Waterfall   Tour fascinating Barton Creek Cave in a canoe in the morning and see Maya artifacts and brilliant cave formations. We will stop for lunch at scenic Five Sisters, and take a swim at Big Rock Waterfalls or Rio On Pools on Mountain Pine Ridge.

  • Archaeology Roundup   The archaeology buff can take a grand tour of Cahal Pech + El Pilar + Xunantunich, the three most popular ruins in the area. Lunch at Clarissa Falls on the Mopan River. This is a full day.
  • Extended Day Adventure Trips

    Casa Maya Extended Day Adventure Trips are challenging and more complex than the regular Day Trips. They also involve more travel, special equipment, and a longer day. The costs, ranging from $65 to $85 per person, are all inclusive of tours, transportation, equipment, guides and lunch.

  • Caracol Ruins   Caracol is one of the largest of the ancient Maya cities, located in the remote Vaca Plateau area. You can watch archaeologists at work currently excavating the ruins.You travel through Mountain Pine Ridge, where we stop for a swim at Rio On Pools, if time allows.

  • Tikal Ruins   Full day trip to probably the most spectacular Maya site in Central America. An overwhelming and awesome experience. Lots of wild animals. Chance to do a bit of native market shopping.

  • Aktun Tunichil Maknal (Sepulchre Cave) Adventure   This is a vigorous adventure trip to one of the most dramatic caves in Central America. Maya artifacts and skeletons of sacrificial victims are preserved in the cave dripstone. An unforgettable experience.

  • St. Hermans Cave Adventure   An interesting tour of St. Herman's Cave and Blue Hole National Monument, is a moderately vigorous trip, but very enjoyable. Good cave formations.

  • Cave Branch Tubing Adventure   This is a popular and fascinating trip down the Cave Branch River. Guests go tubing through a series of caves carved in the mountains. Great fun.

  • Mopan River Kayak Adventure   This is an exhilarating kayak trip from the Guatemala border to Bullet Tree Falls. The falls and rapids are moderate, but challenging and exciting. Lunch at Clarissa Falls. You will see huge iguanas, monkeys, river birds, small animals, Maya ruins.
